Why Does Sports Car Insurance Cost More

January 27, 2012

Sports car insurance is notorious for being higher than any other form of car insurance. Vehicles have different insurance costs, but it is no surprise that minivans and trucks have lower insurance costs than sports cars. There is one simple factor that raises the cost of sports car insurance.

Risk

Sports cars are considered dangerous and risky to insure by insurance companies. Sports cars are historically more prone to accidents, and those who drive sports cars are generally more prone to drive faster and more dangerously. Because of this, insurance companies raise the rates on sports cars. They feel that those who own these cars are more likely to need to make claims, so they need to pay more into the system to be able to be insured. While this may not be the case for all, it is reason that insuring a sports car is more expensive than insuring a minivan.
