How to Compare Fleet Vehicle Maintenance Services

January 27, 2012

To manage a fleet without some form of good assistance could be traumatic at times, let alone choosing the right fleet vehicle maintenance services. Although when it comes to actually doing fleet vehicle management, there are different software programs that reduce a manager’s job to just clicking a mouse and collecting information such as service schedule, repair bills, accident history of motor vehicles whether vocational vehicle, forklifts, or trailer. All these could be too much trouble for an individual or group of persons which is why finding the best vehicle maintenance servicing company is important.

As we know, vehicle fleets are range of vehicles owned and maintained by a company or government organization. These motor vehicles are either used or leased, for official use, or to transport goods from one place to another. Rental companies, Federal Government organizations, and police departments range of vehicles are good examples of what a fleet vehicle is all about.

1. ASE Qualified Service Technicians

Nowadays we don't need to search for qualified auto technicians because ASE certification has made things easier. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), conducts eight tests on different areas of auto mechanic repair and maintenance yearly. Technicians with a minimum of two years’ experience who passed at least one of the tests are awarded a certificate on that area. Technicians that make all tests are awarded a master technician status. Auto workshops with qualified ASE certified personnel are allowed to display the logo at their customer reception area. Look for this.

2. Varieties

When it comes to ASE certification, there are a variety of areas the certificate is awarded to. For example, there are technicians who are ASE certified in areas such as Manual Drive and Axles, some on brakes, and others on engine repair. In fact, some people are specialists in car's electrical and electronic systems. There are also collision repair specialists. There are more areas, however ,a good fleet vehicle manager should only outsource fleet vehicle maintenance to companies that don’t have ASE qualified technicians but people with qualifications in all the areas the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) test technicians for.

3. Ask Friends

As a fleet vehicle manager, one can easily get in touch with individuals from other companies or government organizations to get recommendations on which fleet vehicle maintenance servicing companies are reliable. People with at least a couple of years in the fleet vehicle maintenance business should be able to come up with good names. Whichever fleet maintenance serving company that provide good services stick to it, but make sure there is a yearly review.

4. Maintenance Location

Competition is strong and so many fleet motor vehicle maintenance servicing companies provide on-site (mobile maintenance) and in-shop maintenance services at the same rate. Therefore, do not pay any extra on-site fees. If one company won’t do it, there are other companies that would be more than willing to do the job.

5. Warranty

Usually some fleet maintenance servicing companies will provide a six month warranty for every fleet vehicle they service, repair, or perform preventable inspection on. Anything that happens within that time, they would pay the bill. Some companies give as much as an eight month warranty. Therefore in comparing fleet maintenance services, checking for a warranty with favorable terms and conditions is a wise thing to do.
