There are many winter car storage tips that can help you prepare a vehicle for hibernation.
- Fill Up
Fill up your car with a full tank of gas. This is so that water does not condensate while it is just sitting there. You can also add some gas stabilizer into it as well, but if you do, drive around for a couple minutes to make sure it circulates through the whole system. - Maintenance
Get some of the simple maintenance tasks done before you store your car for the winter. Have an oil change, clean the filters, flush the brake fluid and add coolant. You can also spray the hinges with something like WD40, since they won't be used for months. - Windows Down
Before leaving the car for the winter, crack a window or two in the car. This is important so that air can freely move in and out of your car. If you have a convertible, keep the top up, but still crack the window. - Wash
Wash your car before putting it in storage. It wouldn't be a bad idea to wax it as well. You wouldn't want any existing dirt or debris that is on the car to seep into the paint. If it sits there too long, it can permanently be affixed to the car and it may not come out when you try to wash it next time. - Keep Insurance
This one may seem odd at first. Keep the insurance on your car, just in case something happens to the place where you're storing it, and your car gets damaged. Chances are your insurance company would lower the rates during this time, so it's worth it to keep it insured for the lower price, just to be safe.
