Depending on which authority that you ask, nitrogen gas in tires appears to be slightly better than just filling your car tires with regular air from an air pressure hose. Some studies have shown that it helps for better gas mileage of up to a half gallon more in miles per hour, and that it improves the performance of your car. However, filling up the tires with nitrogen costs about $5 per tire. So it is something that you have to consider before doing, as the savings may not equal the cost of doing it. It is up to you to decide if filling your tires with nitrogen is something cost effective.
