Oil Change

An oil change is a standard maintenance technique that is essential in any vehicle's regular upkeep. Motor oil is a lubricant that is used for a car's engine. Oil lubricates an engine's moving parts, fights against corrosion and helps keep the engine clean and cool. If a car's oil is not changed regularly, it can cause a host of problems.
The main reason for changing a car's oil is to prevent the buildup of sludge in the engine. When the combustion process occurs in a vehicle's engine, contaminant particles are created as byproducts. These particles can build up within an engine and attach to it, creating sludge. Any engine that has a sludge problem is not going to be performing at its best, and the engine's lifespan will progressively shorten as the sludge problem worsens. The use and regular change of motor oil can prevent sludge buildup in a car's engine. As the motor oil lubricates an engine, it essentially washes away the contaminant particles that are created from the combustion process. This washing helps keep the engine clean and free of sludge.
However, motor oil can only become saturated with so many particles. If the oil becomes too saturated with particles, sludge will begin to build within the engine, so it is important to regularly change the oil in a vehicle to keep it running properly. How often one should change the oil in his or her car will vary from situation to situation, as driving conditions and the type of vehicle play important roles in determining how frequent a car's oil should be changed. The only way to find out absolutely if a car needs its oil changed is to have an oil analysis performed. Since this process can be a hassle, most drivers are wise to just play it safe and follow their car manufacturer's suggestions regarding oil change frequency.
Regular oil changes are essential to keep a car running well, so be sure not to overlook this simple facet of basic vehicle upkeep.
