How to Get a Discount at an American Driving School

January 27, 2012

If you are looking to take the driver's license road test in your area, or just want to improve your driving skill and technique, attending an American driving school may give you the confidence and preparation you need.

While studying driving manuals or other written material can help you prepare for the written test in your state, nothing can prepare for the actual driving test like professional instruction from a certified driving trainer. However, you never want to pay too much for a driving school. So, here is a guide with a few ways to help you save some money.

What You Will Need

  • A computer that is connected to the Internet
  • Some basic research skill
  • Patience

Step 1 - Search for Driving Schools in Your Area

In your search for certified driving schools that may offer discounts, you should begin with your local Yellow Pages or even your local newspaper. However, you should also use a major search engine to search for driving schools in your area. For instance, enter search terms such as your "city's name and driving school". Example, if you live in Los Angeles, simply enter: "Los Angeles driving school".

You will then be presented with links to driving schools in your area where you can view the types of driving courses offered and their prices. Be patient and try to locate as many different driving schools in your area as possible.

Step 2 - Compare Lesson Fees and Rates

Make it a point to jot down the prices offered by the various schools and use your notes in comparing the various courses, rates and fees charged by the different driving schools. Every so often, driving schools may offer special deals and promotions that will allow you to save quite a bit of money off of their standard course rates.

Step 3 - Search for Coupons and Promotions

You should also search for coupon and promotion sites on the web that may offer discount coupons and promotion codes to be used at various driving schools. In order to find them, enter search terms into your favorite search engine such as "coupons for driving schools" or "driving school promotion codes". You should also keep an eye out for money-saving deals and coupons that may appear in your local newspaper.

Step 4 - Ask for Bulk Lesson Discounts

If you have found a driving school you are interested in attending, you should contact the school and ask them if they offer discounts for booking a number of lessons in advance. If you are willing to pay for multiple lessons in advance, the school may be willing to offer discounts that range from about 5% all the way up to about 20%.

Step 5 - Take a Course with a Friend

Finally, ask driving school representatives or staff members if they offer discounts for group registrations. Some driving schools offer discounts for groups as small as two people. Therefore, if you are able to attend a driving school with a friend, you both may be able to save some money.

Just remember to be patient in your search for discounts for American driving schools. With a little perseverance and research, you will be able to find a driving course you can afford.
