When considering buying a vehicle, you need to understand that not every certified pre owned inspection is equal. A manufacturer's certification often comes with a higher set of standards than does a dealer certification. Indeed, there is no regulation on what qualifies as a certified pre owned vehicle. In theory, an independent dealer could take a trade in, without inspection, slap a "certified" sign on it and park it on the lot. For that reason, it's best to both ask to see a copy of the certification agreement and get the car inspected yourself by a qualified mechanic. Once you've bought it, it might be too late.
