Does a Certified Used Car Have to Be Fixed at the Dealership that Certified It?

August 20, 2010

There can be big differences between one certified used car and another. Technically speaking, a certified used car should not require work to be done at the dealer that certified it. However, certifications often vary dramatically from dealer to dealer. So, the best idea is to familiarize yourself with the certification paperwork before purchasing. The documents can often have clauses that require the work be done at specific shops. If you already have a certified used car agreement, consult it carefully before taking the car in for repair. It's better to follow the terms of the agreement than found out after the repair that it won't be covered.
