Generations

The failure of General Motor's Saturn brand in 2009 seemed to confirm the belief that an American automaker could not compete head-to-head with Japanese competitors. In 2011, however, Chevrolet introduced the Cruze—and has been giving Civics and Corollas a run for their money ever since.

With an MSRP of just over $17,000, the Cruze is a stylish four-door sedan with high-quality interiors, standard high-tech features and a large trunk. It's a compelling value proposition, and those shopping for compact sedans should add the Cruze to their test drive list.

2011 - 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Major changes included:

The Cruze is all-new for 2011, and completely upstages its predecessor, the Cobalt. It offers competitive fuel economy, and the 1.4-liter turbo is particularly strong. One of the Cruze's best features is its handling. The ride is smooth and responsive, and the Cruze is surprisingly agile, particularly around town.

The Cruze's cabin is roomy for its class, and its trunk space is downright impressive. A good selection of up-to-date features come standard -- even the base level gets 10 airbags.
