What's New
The Chevrolet Impala, the brand's large sedan, was granted a several-month production extension. It was originally slated to be killed off, but General Motors later decided to keep it around for 2020 along with the Cadillac CT6. The 2020 Chevy Impala soldiers on with limited active safety features, yesterday’s level of refinement, and a simplified options list.
Choosing Your Chevrolet Impala
The Impala is now only available in two trims: LT and Premier. The LT starts at $32,495 including destination while the Premier is priced at $37,595.
Engine Choices
The 2020 Chevrolet Impala features a 3.6-liter V6 that develops 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, the Impala earns EPA-estimated 19 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 combined.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Impala is a large car, a fact confirmed by a length (201.3 inches) that's about 6 inches longer than the Chevrolet Malibu. A 111.7-inch wheelbase balances 39.8 inches of rear leg room and 18.8 cubic feet of trunk space, which is good among its peers. A 60/40-split-folding rear seat aids with hauling longer items.
Safety Features
The LT doesn't get any standard active safety features, but the Premier is equipped with blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. These four are available on the LT through the $495 Driver Confidence Package.
Anything beyond that is limited to the Premier trim and costs extra. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning require the $1,275 Premier Confidence Package, which also includes 20-inch aluminum wheels.
The 2020 Impala carries a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA.
Connectivity
The Impala’s infotainment system runs through an 8-inch touchscreen and is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and is 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot capable. On-Star is also offered as a subscription and there are three USB ports about the interior. Navigation and wireless charging become standard on the Premier.
LT - $32,495
The LT now serves as the base trim (in place of the LS) and includes a healthy list of comfort features. An eight-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, leatherette and cloth seating surfaces, automatic headlights, and a 4.2-inch driver information display cater to the driver.
Features like proximity entry, remote engine start, 18-inch wheels, rear passenger vents, and turn signals integrated into the mirrors can be appreciated by many more.
Buyers can add heated front seats and a heated steering wheel with the LT Convenience Package ($875), which also includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 120-volt outlet, premium carpet floor mats, and a trunk cargo net.
Premier - $37,595
The Premier trim gains distinctive exterior features such as 19-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim, HID headlights, and bright dual exhaust tips. The higher price also includes perforated leather seating, heated front seats, an eight-way power passenger seat, and an 11-speaker Bose audio system.
Add ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and memory settings for the driver's seat, outside mirrors, and steering wheel through the Premier Convenience Package ($935). A sunroof is a $1,050 standalone option.
Compare Impala Trims Side-By-Side
The 2020 Chevrolet Impala has a difficult time stacking up against its rivals. The LT trim with the LT Convenience Package presents the best combination of features and value, though its lack of active safety features is difficult to ignore.
