Even with today's fervor for hybrid vehicles, the idea of a full-size hybrid truck is odd. Yet the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid has been in production since 2005 -- when it was GM's first gas-electric vehicle available to the public.
The original Silverado Hybrid used poorly-performing "mild hybrid" technology and was phased out after 2007. The current second-generation 1500 Hybrid debuted in 2009 and features twin electric motors as part of its advanced hybrid technology. While it achieves excellent fuel economy in the city, the truck's average highway efficiency causes some to question its premium price.
