How Much Does the Average Red Light Camera Ticket Cost?

January 27, 2012

The average red light camera ticket cost is very much open to interpretation, and has about as many holes in it as a piece of Swiss cheese. For example, California is supposed to be charging $500 for a left turn violations. However, in Santa Ana, a judge has put the program on hold, and in another jurisdiction, the cost is far lower. In Texas, where the cost is supposed to be about $100, judges have put their boots to the program and are charging between $1 and $72. In New York and Washington, D.C., judges are knocking down the fines until they finally make a ruling on the constitutionality of the red light system. (Some argue it amounts to a violation of the fourth and sixth amendments.)
