A car registration number is a characteristic alphanumeric code that helps to distinctively identify a car within the specific issuing district's database. In several countries the registration number is distinct within the whole country area whereas in other countries it is an exclusive number within a county or state. Though in America license plates have been in use for only a hundred years, most of them have a distinctive history involving them.
Department of Motor Vehicles
In United States DMV or the department of motor vehicles is an organization which is under the administration of the respective state governments. The state government controls the whole process of auto registration and also the driver certification procedure. The American state of Hawaii is an exception as here the department of motor vehicles is under the supervision of the County. In Canada auto registration and driver certification is monitored by the provincial government. In Tennessee and Kentucky the Department of Revenue, the Transportation Cabinet and the Taxpayer Vehicle Services Division controls the auto registration and licensing department while in District of Columbia the metropolis government administers the department of motor vehicles.
