Ford's Escape Hybrid compact crossover SUV is worth consideration for those who drive lots of miles but still need SUV utility. The Hybrid's 34 city/31 highway mpg (30 city/27 highway mpg with 4-wheel drive) rating is a standout number among crossover SUVs, though the added efficiency does come at a price premium of around $9,000 over the base model Escape. For 2011 it comes in Base and Limited trim levels, priced from around $30,000. Power comes from a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder and an electric motor paired using a full-hybrid system for a combined 177 peak horsepower.
Featuring 66.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity and seating for 5, the hybrid has an interior packed with technology. Features include Ford's Sync voice command system, and an available navigation system with satellite radio, live gas pricing information and real-time traffic and weather.
