Currently in its third generation, the super duty Ford F-450 is designed and engineered as a work truck, but can also be ordered with amenities usually found in luxury cars. The F-450 comes in only one configuration -- as a crew cab with four-wheel drive -- but offers choices between a 6.7-liter turbo-diesel engine or a 6.2-liter gas V8.

A new Platinum trim level includes upscale features like a navigation system, a heated steering wheel and premium leather upholstery. The F-450 also offers best-in-class towing and payload capacities, and boasts better fuel economy ratings than its counterparts from General Motors and Dodge.

Major changes included:

As truck-buyers began demanding nicer interiors and more power, Ford decided to redesign the F-450 in 2008 and produce a model for the public. The single F-450 on offer is a four-door crew cab with an eight-foot bed and dual rear wheels. The brutish exterior styling is reinforced by the truck's power, as the F-450 can tow over 24,000 pounds and features a payload capacity of two tons. Trim levels start with the XL but include the luxurious Lariat and top-of-the-line King Ranch.

Major changes included:

The first-generation of the Ford Super Duty included F-250, F-350 and F-450 variants. The F-450 was not available to the general public and sold only as a commercial vehicle with a cab and chassis. Known for its beefy axles, this F-450 generation featured a Dana 60 up front and Dana 80 in the rear. All Super Duty trucks with dual rear-wheels were equipped with a stabilizer bar.
