Major changes included: The first generation Focus made Ford a serious contender in the compact market. The focus was available in many different body styles and trim levels over the years, including the S, SE, ST and ZTS sedans, ZX3 and SVT 3-door hatchbacks, ZX5 and SVT 5-door hatchbacks and ZTW and ZXW wagons. There were several different engines offered in the Focus, including an array of 2.0-liter four-cylinders producing anywhere from110-170 horsepower, as well as a 151-hp 2.3-liter four-cylinder found in the 2005-2007 Focus ST. The 2002-2004 Focus SVT models delivered sporty performance with their high-output 170-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Interior space was abundant on hatchback and wagon models, especially being a compact.
