Major changes included: The first generation Fusion was a mid-size sedan that introduced Ford's new styling direction. Its signature grille and headlights have inspired the designs of today's Ford models. With three trim levels available, including S, SE and SEL, the Fusion could be outfitted to fill many different roles. Two engines were available, including a 160-hp 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a 221-hp 3.0-liter V6 offered in the SE and SEL models. A 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission were offered with the four-cylinder models, while the V6 model got a 6-speed automatic. All-wheel drive was an option for SE and SEL models starting in 2007. The Fusion could carry five people comfortably and had 15.8 cubic feet of trunk space.
