In 2008, GMC did something novel: install a hybrid engine where it's really needed—in a full-size SUV. The Yukon Hybrid didn't win any mileage contests or appeal to the typical hybrid owner, but it did deliver sedan-like fuel economy without sacrificing power, room or cargo space.
The 2013 model is rated at 21 mpg in combined city and highway driving. Its 6-liter V8 and dual electric motors produce a total 332 horsepower, a bit more than the standard 5.3-liter gasoline V8. The hybrid really shines in city driving, where it can go up to 30 mph using electric power only.
