Infiniti began with three vehicles (the Q45, M30, and G20), but through the 1990s they slowly added new models and variations to their impressive line. Late in the decade, Infiniti introduced the QX4, a luxury SUV based on the Nissan Pathfinder platform. This vehicle was something of a breakthrough as it gave Infiniti a high-end luxury SUV with an impressive off-road package to compete with the likes of Land Rover.
Despite their success, Infiniti struggles in the shadow of its Asian competition, often selling far fewer cars than Acura and Lexus. However, the introduction of a mid-sized sedan with an affordable price tag (the G35) in the mid-2000s gave Infiniti a boost in market share. The G35 was followed by the highly-successful FX SUV, a high-performance vehicle with quality options and an affordable price-tag (for a luxury auto-manufacturer). The M-series and G-series remain the most popular options for buyers, and both feature hearty engines.
Infiniti’s line of coupes and sedans often fly under the radar. In comparison, Infiniti does well in terms of performance, especially when comparing engines. Infiniti is known for robust power-plants which generate a lot of raw power and torque. In fact, Infiniti often outshines the competition in regards to engine performance. With twenty-nine models to choose from, buyers might have trouble deciding what type of vehicle, and which model is right for them.
