Kia originally began as a producer of vehicles - bicycles. They also manufactured steel piping before making the eventual journey into the world of automobiles in the early 1970s – becoming the first Korean company to manufacture the combustible gasoline engine. Kia parts were used on other vehicles for years and they first produced and marketed vehicles in the United States in the early 1990s. They haven't looked back since.
Kia originally began with only a single model and slowly ramped up to their current line-up, which includes thirteen models. Their line of popular SUVs includes the Sorento and Kia Sprotage, while the Optima and Forte remain reliable choices for a sedan, coupe, or hatchback.
Despite their current lineup, Kia’s development has been slowed by financial trouble in the late 1990s, resulting in a merger when Kia was acquired by Hyundai. Since the merger, Kia has become a major player in the Asian automobile market. An increase in their vehicle line-ups, quality, and overall performance has resulted in sizeable leap in reputation. Kia vehicles have become a reliable and viable option for all drivers, not just those seeking an affordable vehicle. With each passing year Kia solidifies its reputation and slowly gains more and more buyers.
