The Optima is available in four trim levels; LX, EX, EX Turbo and SX. The LX and EX are equipped with a naturally-aspirated 200-hp 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder. The EX turbo and SX use a turbocharged 274-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the LX, while a Sportmatic six-speed automatic is available on the LX and standard on all other trims. Standard safety features include active headrests, traction-control, stability-control, four-wheel antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitor.
Major changes included: The second generation Optima is available with either a 2.4 liter inline 4-cylinder engine or a 2.7 liter V6. Both engines are available in EX or LX trims. Power features, cloth seats, and tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all trims.

Major changes included: The first generation Optima was Kia's first mid-size sedan offered in North America. Available in only two trim levels, including LX and SE (replaced by EX in 2004), the Optima went through a few minor changes throughout its production run. The Optima featured a 149-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 170-hp 2.5-liter V6 as its two engine choices. For 2002, the displacement of the V6 was upped to 2.6 liters, raising horsepower to a more respectable 185. Standard features for the Optima included air conditioning, power windows and power door locks.
