The Lexus IS F—a high-performance version of the compact IS sedan—debuted in 2008. Exterior modifications are tasteful and discreet: It features aggressive bulges in the fenders and hood, while a quad exhaust and rear spoiler suggest sportier intent.
With the help of a 416-horsepower 5-liter V8, the IS F screams to 60 mph in fewer than 5 seconds. The eight-speed automatic transmission works better in manual mode, but it's difficult to fault handling that makes the four-seat sedan feel like a sports car.
The IS F is still in its first generation, and has seen few changes. Significantly, though, the unrelentingly harsh ride of the first few years has been ironed out.
