The Lexus RX was first to the party in the luxury hybrid SUV market and is still a class leader, known for Toyota's highly advanced hybrid system combined with a truly luxurious vehicle. The RX 450h uses two permanent-magnet electric motor/generators in the front-wheel drive model, adding a third used to power the rear wheels for the all-wheel drive model. Combined with a 3.5-liter VVT-i V6 using Toyota's industry-leading Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the RX 450h has a peak power output of 295 hp.
At 32 city/28 highway mpg with front-wheel drive or 30/28 mpg with all-wheel drive, no luxury SUV in this class can touch the RX's excellent fuel efficiency. Starting at less than $6,000 more than the base RX 350, the Hybrid bests that luxury SUV by a significant margin in efficiency and is more powerful as well.
