The first automobile bearing the Mazda name was introduced in the 1960s. Mazda quickly developed the rotary engine and their first pick-up truck by the end of the decade. In 1970, Mazda begin importing and selling cars in America with the introduction of the RX-2. The RX-3 and RX-4 followed later in the decade, and by the 1979 Mazda was selling the Mazda RX-7, which would become a staple of their line.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Mazda continued to build their brand and develop their reputation for creating vehicles which were fun to drive. The Mazda 323 and 626 were introduced in the 80s, but Mazda’s biggest victory came in the 90s with the introduction of the Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible. Over the years, the Miata has steadily sold, making it the best-selling roaster in the world.
Today Mazda offers ten vehicles for buyers to choose from. In the 2000s they unveiled the popular CX-9 SUV and Mazda 2 hatchback. Both vehicles have introduced a new segment of the population to Mazda. The Mazda 3 and MX-5 Miata remain two of the company’s most popular sellers. Nearly every Mazda today features some version of their revolutionary rotary engine, which is efficient, powerful, and reliable. Mazda has remained an innovator, focusing in recent years on reducing the fuel consumption of their vehicles while maintaining the performance, speed, and exhilarating drive the company has always been known for.
