McLaren MP4-12C Overview

The MP4-12C's 592-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine sends power through a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox (SSG). The MP4-12C features a revolutionary, one-piece molding carbon fibre chassis structure, the Carbon MonoCell, that provides the advantages of carbon composite - light weight, high strength, torsional rigidity, and longevity - and allows a much narrower structure overall which in turn contributes to a more compact car that is easier to position on the road and more rewarding to drive. The three-mode Proactive Chassis Control adaptive suspension's shock absorbers are interconnected hydraulically and provide responses depending on both road conditions and driver preference. Carbon ceramic brakes and an extremely heat-resistant, light-weight sport exhaust system are optional. Dihedral doors allow the driver and passenger to get into and out of the car easily, allow ingress and egress in a situation where another car has parked too closely, and offer weight-savings and a unique handle-free entry system. The active Airbrake spoiler deploys hydraulically under braking, or when the driver wants to trim the car for increased downforce. The standard multimedia stereo features a 40-gigabyte hard drive and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Options include light-weight forged alloy wheels, carbon fiber exterior trim, front and rear parking sensors, carbon fiber and Alcantara interior trim, heated power seats with memory, and a premium 80-gigabyte audio system with navigation and WLAN connectivity. A wide range of interior colors and trim configurations are available.

The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C is an all-new model, and is the first road-legal car offered by McLaren since the legendary F1 (last produced in 1998).
