Daimler and Benz formed several small companies but eventually merged them into one in the mid-1920s. The company’s star insignia was representative of Daimler-Benz’s work and the points of the star each stood for vehicles designed to traverse over land, through the air, and on the sea.
Since their inception Mercedes has made a name for itself as a manufacturer known for reliability, performance, and prestige. They became famous for their luxury vehicles (sedans and limousines) and powerful engines featuring massive horsepower and big-block engines. By the mid-1960s Mercedes Benz was the model manufacturer for performance and luxury in automobiles. In fact, their vehicles became synonymous with a wealthy lifestyle.
Mercedes has always been at the forefront of innovation. They designed the first vehicle ever to feature a crumple zone body, and have long been at the forefront of innovative safety technology.
By the 1970s Mercedes has introduced their S-class line; a decadent line of sedans and coupes fully loaded and featuring high-end materials and performance and impressive, state-of-art safety features. In the 1980s Mercedes raised the bar again, introducing airbags and traction control to their vehicles. And in the 1990s Mercedes merged with AMG – further pushing the envelope, producing even more high-end performance.
Today there are forty-three Mercedes to choose from, including a full line of sedans, coupes, and SUVs starting in the mid $30,000 range and running up and over $100,000. The company still stands for opulence, performance, and excellence – a standard they have maintained since their birth.
