In 1967, two former Mercedes-Benz engineers paired up to build world-class racecars completely by hand, and soon expanded into the customization of road cars. Impressed by AMG's work, Mercedes-Benz sanctioned their hot-rodding activities and eventually purchased the company outright.
While the CLS-Class has been sold in North America since 2005, the CLS63 AMG didn't appear until 2007. Like lesser CLS siblings, it underwent its first redesign last year and continues into a second generation for 2013. Each CLS63 AMG comes with a plaque on the engine cover that's signed by the sole AMG mechanic who hand-built the 5.5-liter V8 engine.
