When Mercedes-Benz unveiled its seven-passenger GL-Class in 2007 as a replacement for the G-Wagen, the German automaker didn't expect a public outcry that continues to keep the antiquated jeep-like SUV alive. The modern GL-Class attracted a new audience, however, and has entered its second generation after a complete 2012 redesign.

Manufactured in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the GL-Class comes with four engine options that range from a 240-horsepower turbo-diesel V6 to a 550-horsepower bi-turbo V8. All models feature the outstanding 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, along with a long list of safety, luxury and entertainment features that make the GL-Class one of the most versatile and customizable luxury SUVs in the marketplace.

Major changes included: The 3-row, 7-passenger SUV is based on the unibody construction design of the ML class, and lacks the boxy appearance of the G class. It features 4matic four-wheel drive and independent multilink suspension to increase handling prowess. It is powered by either a 4.6 liter or optional 5.5 liter V8, and a 3.0 liter diesel engine is also optional. The GL emphasizes power with its 7-speed automatic transmission.
