If the S65 is the king of the sedan line for Mercedes-Benz, then the S63 is its prince. Style and class abound with this premium offering, but the real feature is the power and performance it provides.
What's New for 2016
The S63 gets a bit of a facelift for the new model year. Buyers will notice changes to the exterior of the car, but nothing too groundbreaking. Otherwise the engine and other features are carryovers from last year.
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG
The S63 is one of the top-tier offerings in the sixth generation of the S-Class line. While it has many amenities to offer, as well as an elegant style, the story of this luxury beast is its power.
The S63 sports a handcrafted 5.5-liter biturbo V8 that is a smaller than the monstrous V12 in the S65, but the S63's lighter weight makes it faster than its big brother. With 577 horsepower and 0 to 60 mph acceleration of 3.9 seconds, this car will punch you back into your luxury leather seats and not let go until you take your foot off of the accelerator.
With all that power comes plenty of control. The S63 is equipped with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and -- as with all Mercedes-Benz cars -- safety is a big priority with airbags throughout and a host of standard and optional active and passive driver assists.
The interior has a luxurious and intuitive, notable for dual 12.3-inch high-resolution screens and an infotainment system with navigation and a touchpad controller.
Even with an MSRP of $143,250, an S63 isn't fully loaded. Option packages can add several thousand dollars to the bottom line, but we think they'll enhance the ownership experience for a relatively minor premium at this price point. And, really, isn’t that what buying one of these luxurious powerhouses is about anyway?
