Major changes included: The second generation Mariner is offered with two different engines, a 2.3 liter inline-4 and a 3.0 liter V-6. A hybrid version is also available. Changes included a new seats, headlights, taillights, a new liftgate, a higher beltline and new doors and wheels. The interior was also upgraded with more refined materials.
