MINI John Cooper Works Overview

The MINI Cooper line is named after British racing legend John Cooper, so it is only fitting that the highest-performing modern MINI model should bear his full name. The John Cooper Works package, available in 3-door hatch and cabriolet body styles as well as on the larger MINI Clubman, takes a Cooper S and hones it to a razor's edge. Power comes from a turbocharged direct-injection 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder, retuned to produce 208 hp and 192 lb-ft. of torque, or up to 207 lb-ft. with the overboost function engaged.

All models come with a 6-speed manual transmission. Traction and stability control systems can be completely defeated for spirited motoring, while an Electronic Differential Lock Control system helps minimize wheelspin and maximize torque to the drive wheel with the best traction. Visual enhancements over the Cooper S include a more aggressive body kit, 17-inch cross spoke wheels and piano black interior trim. Good for 25 city/33 highway mpg, the John Cooper Works starts at $29,900.
