Nissan Altima S

The Nissan Altima S contains the same 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that ships in the base model: this powerplant delivers 175 horsepower and gets 23 MPG in-city and 31 on the highway. The Altima S ships with either a manual or an XTronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), which gets one less mile per gallon on highway than the manual option.

The Altima S has the same great safety features that come standard on the base model: an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and six airbags help Altima owners get competitive safety ratings from insurers. All Altima models also come standard equipped with seat safety, with Front-seat Active Head Restraints and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), and engineering like body-zone construction that helps minimize risk in a front-end collision. All Altima models also come standard with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that prevents tire underinflation, which has been linked with serious road safety issues by national safety authorities.

Other features in common with the base model include power locks and doors and steering-wheel mounted cruise control. The S model offers some additional features, including some upgrades to the vehicle's sound system (more speakers and an auxiliary jack for audio input) as well as the Nissan Intelligent Key (TM) system where a specialized key fob offers touch button ignition, the hottest new technology for easy access to this high design sedan. The Altima 2.5S represents some attractive extras added onto the base model for those who want to take their Nissan experience to the next level.
