For 2009, Subaru’s Forester kicks the year off right by maintaining itself as a bonafide SUV, not a CUV. The new 2009 Forester is longer and taller and features standard all-wheel-drive and both turbocharged and normally aspirated versions of Subaru's trademark 2.5-liter flat four engine. The new 2009 Impreza 2.5GT receives a 225 horsepower turbocharged flat-four engine from last year's WRX mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Impreza base-model 2.5i gains standard electronic stability control and four-wheel disc brakes. Additionally, Impreza WRX gets a solid 260 horsepower for 2009, while the cream-of-the-crop top line STI receives even more power (300 hp), a new STI-inspired body kit and 17" gunmetal wheels wrapped in sticky summer-only tires. The 2009 Legacy badges as a 3.0R model, gets a 6-cylinder engine and has been divided into two models. The 3.0R Limited offers similar equipment to the 2008 3.0R, while the 3.0R Base comes with less standard. Electronic stability control is now offered on all Legacy models except the 2.5 GT with manual transmission. The 2009 Outback receives a Harmon-Kardon stereo system while Lmited-badged models get dark-tinted privacy glass and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. The 2009 Tribeca remains unchanged from 2008.

Subaru tends to offer lease specials and low APR rates to entice people into one of their vehicles. At times, you can even get a 0% APR, which is uncommon for a Japanese manufacturer. 2006 Subaru models are given a warranty of basic coverage 3 years / 36,000 miles and powertrain coverage 5 years / 60,000 miles.

Subaru’s reputation for safety is reaffirmed by its strong crash-test results. Both the Impreza and Legacy received the Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) "Top Safety Pick Gold," the organization’s highest rating. Also, the Forester was recognized as the best vehicle in its class for protection against whiplash injury in a rear collision. In addition, the B9 Tribeca and Outback received National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) 5-star ratings for frontal and side impact protection, along with 4-star ratings for rollover resistance.
