What's New
The 2022 Toyota C-HR carries on with few changes for the new model year. The base LE trim was discontinued and there is a new shade of white offered.
Choosing Your Toyota C-HR
There are three trims available when buying the 2022 Toyota C-HR, the XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited. Base prices range from $25,095 to $28,115. Shoppers looking for an alternative should be aware that Toyota is also now offering a subcompact crossover called the Corolla Cross based on the Corolla sedan.
Engine Choices
The 2022 C-HR is available in one powertrain configuration that consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque and a continuously-variable transmission. Power is routed to the front wheels only.
The C-HR’s relatively heavy curb weight (3,300 pounds) doesn’t do it any favors in acceleration or fuel efficiency and the C-HR manages to only achieve an EPA-estimate 27 miles per gallon city, 31 mpg highway, and 29 combined while running on premium gasoline, no less. That rating is slightly better than the similarly powered Nissan Rogue Sport but less than the Honda HR-V.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
As a subcompact SUV, the 2022 Toyota C-HR’s length of 172.6 inches is about seven inches longer than the funky Hyundai Kona, about two inches longer than the popular HR-V, and matches the Nissan Rogue Sport and Mazda CX-30. Its 70.7-inch width helps it navigate tight urban streets and its 5.9 inches of ground clearance will prevent it from straying too far into the woods.
The C-HR puts a priority on styling over maximizing interior space and while it is rated for five passengers, its compact interior is better suited for four or fewer. Headroom is average for the class, measuring about 38 inches in both rows, however, its 49 inches of front shoulder room and 31.7 inches of legroom are rather tight. The Toyota’s cargo space is also negatively impacted by the design and measures 19.1 cubic feet behind the second row and just 37 cubic feet with the seatback folded. The much smaller Kona provides more space as does the stylish Mazda CX-30.
Safety Features
The 2022 Toyota C-HR is well equipped with active safety technology. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and road sign recognition are included and the Limited trim adds automatic high beams and remote safety-connect services.
NHTSA awards the C-HR with a four-star rating and IIHS calls it a 2022 Top Safety Pick with Superior scores for vehicle and pedestrian crash avoidance and Good headlight scores for the Limited trim, although the standard headlights are rated Poor.
Connectivity
An eight-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and Wi-Fi are all onboard every 2022 Toyota C-HR and there is one USB port and one 12V power outlet for charging duties.
2022 Toyota C-HR XLE - MSRP From $25,095
The XLE trim takes over as the new base trim and remains just as feature-loaded as before. LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, power-folding heated mirrors with integrated turn signals and puddle lights, proximity entry, cloth seats with six-way adjustability, a 4.2-inch driver information display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control are all standard.
2022 Toyota C-HR Nightshade Edition - MSRP From $25,860
The Nightshade Edition adds dark styling to the exterior with unique black 18-inch wheels, black door handles, a black chin spoiler, and back badges. Available in white, red, gray, or black, each exterior color features a contrasting black painted roof panel for $500-$925.
2022 Toyota C-HR Limited - MSRP From $28,115
The Limited trim builds off of the XLE trim and adds adaptive LED headlights, LED fog lights, chrome window trim, a gloss-black painted B-pillar, and heated leather seats with eight-way power adjustability for the driver.

The C-HR is all about styling and the XLE provides enough creature comforts to make the daily commute comfortable without losing its sense of value.
