In 2012, Toyota added the subcompact Prius c, available in four different trims, to their line of hybrid vehicles. This smaller version of the Prius is 19 inches shorter in length than the regular model, yet passengers lose only an inch or so of leg room.
The Prius c also has a smaller powertrain with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors paired to a continuously variable transmission for a total output of 99 horsepower. Thanks to its light curb weight, estimated mileage for the Prius c comes in at 50 mpg in combined driving.
