Toyota Prius HB IV
With the 3rd generation Toyota Prius HB IV, Toyota moves the Prius to near-luxury levels in 2010 with what is now a mid-sized car. The mileage improvements up to the combined 50 miles per gallon have been achieved by making the car slightly wider and shorter (for improved aerodynamics), and lessening the weight of several key power components.
The 2010 Model IV Prius is the greatest appointed Prius to which the much advertised “green” Solar Package can be added. The Solar Package consists of the solar-powered sunroof and solar powered cooling fan, the ability to pre-cool the car with the electric air conditioner for up to three minutes prior to entering the car, and the voice-activated DVD navigation system. (For some curious reason known only to Toyota, the Solar Package is not an available option on the model V Prius for 2010.)
Prius model IV for 2010 includes everything in the Prius model III trim package, plus the addition of more exterior locking/unlocking via keyless function (the front passenger door and rear hatch, as well as the driver’s door), leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver lumbar adjustment and an auto-dimming rear view mirror. Model IV also includes Safety Connect as an option, Toyota’s version of GM’s On-Star system.
Model IV therefore includes 15-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, keyless ignition/entry, auto on/off headlights, cruise control, height-adjustable driver seat, tilt-telescoping steering column, the hybrid system video display, upgraded eight-speaker JBL sound system with 4-disk CD changer and Bluetooth streaming capability, plus the ability to hear via Bluetooth your cell phone calls over the audio system speakers.
Much has been said about the 2010 Prius. But its ability to go “green” with Lexus-like luxury will appeal to many at an MSRP of $25.800.
