January 27, 2012

The top selling used cars in the country have more than just popularity on their side. A car does have to have a good reputation for people to want to buy it used, but it also has to last long enough to be sold used. If a popular car is trashed within a couple years after it was bought new, chances are it's going to be on its way to the wrecking yard. The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) is an organization that records information about the sale of used cars. In fact, the NIADA guide is usually what a used car dealer uses to set the sticker price of a vehicle when it comes on his or her lot. Here are the top 5 used car this year according to NIADA:

  • Chevy Silverado. It's no surprise that the biggest competitor to Ford's F-150 comes in second on this list. The Silverado is General Motors' best-selling vehicle, at around 2.5 million units a year
  • Toyota Camry. The Camry offers great reliability and great Toyota quality. That explains why the Camry is an outstanding choice. The Camry also does a great job of holding its value, which is a plus
  • Honda Civic. The Civic is currently the top-selling small sedan in America. It also has good resale value. The Civic is offered in a variety of different trim levels, including the sporty SI and a fuel-sipping hybrid version as well
