Are Diesel Truck Sales Higher than Regular Gasoline Pickups?

November 8, 2010

Diesel truck sales tend to be higher than regular gasoline pickups for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is the power of the specific engine. For example, a Duramax 6.7-liter diesel engine has more low-end torque available for work sites than a comparable gasoline engine driven pickup. And while there is still more than a 50-cent difference in diesel versus gasoline fuel pricing (diesel was at $3.69), if you purchase a diesel truck, not only will you obtain better overall mileage--as diesels tend to deliver better mileage for a given size and configuration--but you will also find that a diesel engine is nearly bulletproof. There are some diesel engine chassis' that have run through three or four truck bodies, and 400,000 miles. Distance and body upgrades that would have a gasoline pickup being traded, probably for a diesel.
