Before you buy a used Mazda RX-8, it’s best to research all the trims and features available. The car was introduced to the US market in 2004. A sports car powered by a rotary engine, the Mazda RX-8 is a vehicle with four doors, a rear wheel drive and a front mid engine. The vehicles were sold as a 197 hp 1.3Liter 4 speed automatic transmission model and a 238 hp 6 speed manual transmission model. For a stiffer suspension, an 18 inch wheel option was offered in the Sports Package trim instead of the standard 16 inch wheel. The manual transmission RX-8 models also had 18 inch wheels for limited-slip differential and stiffer suspension. The other options offered were a navigation system, anti-skid control and leather upholstery. The 2004 models had two trims, namely the Mazda RX-8 4dr Coupe Auto that has a four speed automatic transmission and the Mazda RX-8 4dr Coupe which comes with a 6 speed manual transmission. Four trims were made available for the 2005 models. These include the 4dr Coupe Auto, 4dr Coupe 6-Spd Manual, 4dr Coupe Shinka Special Edition Auto and the 4dr Coupe Shinka Special Edition Man. The additional feature included in these cars was a satellite radio-compatible head unit. The Shinka Special Editions come equipped with bright-finish wheels, chrome head and tail lights, black cherry exterior and parchment leather seats. In 2006, the auto transmission models were given a power boost from 197 hp to 212 hp. There were not many significant changes till the year 2008, when eight additional trims were made available. These trims include the 4dr Coupe Auto Sport, 4dr Coupe Auto 40th Anniversary, 4dr Coupe Auto Grand Touring, 4dr Coupe Auto Touring, 4dr Coupe Man 40th Anniversary, 4dr Cpe Man Grand Touring, 4dr Cpe Man Sport and the 4dr Coupe Man Touring. The 40th anniversary edition, in particular was introduced to celebrate the anniversary of the rotary engines. In 2009, an additional trim R3 model was introduced, while other trims received an elegant and fresh interior.
