The Passat is offered as a front-wheel drive four-door sedan with three engine choices; a 170-hp, 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder, a 140-hp, 2.0-liter TDI diesel four-cylinder, and a 280-hp 3.6-liter VR6. Numerous transmissions are available, a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic with the 2.5L, a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG with the TDI, and a six-speed DSG is standard with the VR6. Standard safety features include six airbags, four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, engine immobilizer and an intelligent crash response system that unlocks all doors, shuts off fuel and electrical supply and turns on the hazard lights. Standard creature comfort features include dual-zone electronic climate control, front and rear centre armrests, trip computer, keyless entry, automatic headlights with coming home function, cruise control and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
Major changes included: The sixth generation Passat, otherwise known as the Mk6, features a dramatically redesigned body. It is available in sedan and wagon form, offering Turbo, Komfort, Lux and VR6 trim levels.
|
Major changes included: The Passat is built on the Audi A4 platform and shares its good looks. The '98 Passat sedan was available in comfortably equipped GLS and loaded GLX trims, with either a turbocharged 4-cylinder or gutsy V6 engine. For 2000, all-wheel drive was offered and the wagon - previously only available in base configuration - could be had with a full array of trim and engine choices. Styling was updated slightly in mid-year 2001, and the virile W8 engine became available for 2002.

Major changes included: This generation Passat was available as a sedan only and had VW's signature boxy styling of the era. Roomy, well equipped and fun to drive, the Passat began to catch on with buyers in the mid 90s.
