Although the xD is looking a little dated in comparison to some of its newer rivals in the subcompact market, it is still highly popular. City owners particularly like its small size for easy parking.
What's New for 2014
For the 2014 model year, the xD’s standard equipment now includes a Pioneer audio system with a touchscreen interface, replacing the previously optional system. Additionally, two new two-tone paint schemes, available at an extra cost, join the seven other exterior color choices.
Choosing Your Scion xD
All xDs are equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with a top power output of 128 horsepower, and all xDs are front-wheel drive. However, buyers do get a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.
The single trim level includes the upgraded audio system with touchscreen, Bluetooth compatibility and six speakers; keyless entry; sport bucket seats in front; and a choice of five-, six- or seven-spoke wheel covers. Scion doesn’t offer any factory options, but a number of dealer-installed accessories and features include:
- A premium audio system that includes navigation and a smartphone interface
- Remote engine start, available only if you also select the automatic transmission
- An auto-dimming rearview mirror
- An assortment of cargo area covers, liners, trays, totes and nets to keep the cargo area clean and small items corralled
- A selection of Toyota Racing Development branded performance parts and accessories such as a sport muffler and a leather shift knob
- Two additional wheel-style options
Scion operates with a non-negotiable price policy. If you go for any of the accessories, remember you’ll be paying full price for them.
