Nissan isn't the first manufacturer that comes to mind when most Americans need a commercial van, but the Japanese automaker has a long history in the segment. Now, it has brought the NV2500 HD to the U.S. market. It's not a crowded field, and loyal buyers traditionally stick to GM or Ford. Nissan wants to break that habit, though.
The 2500 offers a 4-liter V6 with 261 horsepower or a 5.6-liter V8 with 317 horsepower. Both are mated to a five-speed automatic; power goes only to the rear wheels. Standard features include 17-inch steel wheels; air conditioning; an audio system with a CD player, an auxiliary input and four speakers; cloth seats; power windows and locks; remote keyless entry; power mirrors; rear parking sensors; cruise control; and a power driver's seat.
While competitors offer more space or hauling capability, the Nissan NV makes its case by offering an unexpected level of equipment in a commercial van at this price point. The strong powertrains are another bonus -- the V6 bests several competitive V8s while delivering superior fuel economy. If you're in the market for a van, the NV is worth a look.
