Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

2014 Dodge Viper OVERVIEW

The super sports car with a sinister twist, the Dodge Viper hasn’t softened a bit over the last twenty years. It’s still a beast of a performer with thrilling looks and the ability to intimidate grown men. For those who can handle it, the Viper delivers a brutally fun driving experience.

What's New for 2014

The base model can get a new racing-inspired TA (as in "Time Attack") Package for improved high-speed aerodynamics and handling. The stability control system on all versions now comes with a rain mode.

Choosing Your Dodge Viper

2014 dodge srt viperZoom

The Viper’s main claim to fame is the 8.4-liter V10 lurking under the mile-long hood. With 640 horsepower at its disposal, the exotic two-seater does zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and keeps on going into the stratosphere of land velocity.

In case you’re worried the Viper’s performance might be out of your league, every example comes with the SRT Track Experience, a full day of driver training at the track.

All Vipers run with a six-speed manual transmission, summer performance tires, bi-xenon headlamps and Bluetooth connectivity. Buyers can customize their rides with endless combos of wheels, stripes and colors.

Base

The base model can be had with two available packages. The Grand Touring makes the Viper more livable with a cupholder, floor mats, a rearview camera, navigation and HD radio. The TA, meanwhile, equips the Viper for a racetrack with an aerodynamic body kit, lightweight wheels, softer tires, special suspension tuning and Brembo brakes.

GTS

The premium Viper comes with the Grand Touring Package standard, plus its own hood, wheels and leather-trimmed interior. You’ll also find a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system inside. The GTS gets several mechanical upgrades, including driver-selectable Bilstein dampers, two-piece brake rotors and multistage stability and traction control. Most of the contents of the Viper’s TA Package are also available.

Exclusive to the GTS is the available Laguna Interior Package, which adds a simulated suede headliner and premium leather seats in black or sepia.

CarsDirect Tip

Whether you think a cupholder has no place in a serious sports car, or like some amenities to go with the brute force of an SRT-tuned V10, there's a Viper for you. Go with your instincts.
