2014 Ford Focus OVERVIEW

The 2014 Ford Focus is sold all over the world using a global platform. Earlier in 2013, it surpassed the Toyota Corolla as the world’s bestselling vehicle. The Focus blends sportiness, comfort, decent driving dynamics and available luxury features in an affordable package. With its "Kinetic Design" philosophy, Ford has created a nice-looking, athletic design with a touch of premium essence.

What's New for 2014

In response to customer demand, there's a new Sport Appearance Package for the Focus SE. Also, due to some buyers converting from European cars, a manual gearbox is now offered in the luxury-laden Titanium model.

Choosing Your Ford Focus

The Focus is available as a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive only. The standard engine is a 2-liter four-cylinder that's capable of hybrid-like fuel economy: up to 40 mpg. Transmission offerings include a five-speed manual and two versions of Ford’s six-speed automatic.

The trim level you choose not only determines standard features, but also which options you can have.

This base model starts at $16,810 and comes with a standard 2-liter four-cylinder engine hooked to a five-speed manual. A conventional six-speed automatic transmission is optional. The S is available only as a sedan, and offers few extras—even as optional equipment. Unless your top priority is the lowest price, we recommend the added amenities and options of the SE.

Starting at $18,125, the SE includes Ford Sync System, 16-inch aluminum wheels and Ford’s MYkey system. A manual transmission is standard, but buyers may choose from two six-speed automatics, one of which enables manual shifting. You can also opt for a hatchback body style at this trim level. With an array of option packages, you can add leather upholstery, sport trim or an SFE group that improves fuel economy with technological and aerodynamic extras.

It's a bit of a leap to the fully-loaded $23,075 Titanium, but what you get is a premium compact with features like a dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a Sony stereo system and rearview camera. It also replaces Ford’s Sync system with MyFord Touch. As with the SE, buyers choose between sedan and hatchback styles. A six-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting is standard, while a five-speed manual is optional.

CarsDirect Tip

If you haven't driven an American small car for a while, check out the Focus. The style, packaging and driving dynamics will impress. While an SE with a few options will please most buyers with its balance of performance, features and value, we have a soft spot for the understated luxury of the Titanium.
