The Focus Electric—launched in late 2011—was designed to offer enough range for the daily driving habits of most Americans. It has the capability of traveling up to 76 miles on a single charge and delivering a top speed of up to 84 mph. A full recharge takes four hours with a 240-volt charge station.

What's New for 2014
The Focus Electric continues into 2014 with only minor changes. It continues to make extensive use of eco-friendly materials, such as bio-foam seat cushions and recycled fabrics throughout the vehicle.
Choosing Your Ford Focus Electric
A permanent magnet all-electric motor fed by a Lithium-ion battery powers the Focus Electric. It offers more power and weighs less than nickel-metal-hydride batteries, and is mated to a single speed automatic transmission. With 143 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque sent to the front wheels, the Focus Electric returns 110 MPGe city and 99 MPGe highway.
The list of standard equipment is extensive, and includes SYNC, MyFord Touch, heated seats and a Sony-designed nine-speaker stereo system. An ingenious app called MyFord Mobile provides connectivity between driver and vehicle using a smartphone or computer—among other functions it monitors battery charge and current range, and can remotely pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle for passenger comfort.
Options are limited to accessories that include single or dual DVD players for the kids in the back seat.
The Focus Electric has a rather high MSRP, but federal, state and local incentives might bring the price down by a significant percentage. Be sure you know exactly what you're eligible for before closing the deal.
