Kia uses a funky spelling of "coupe" to distinguish its two-door Koup model. Like the rest of the Kia lineup, the Forte Koup has impressed buyers and journalists with vast improvements in quality and reliability.
What's New for 2014
The revved up Kia Forte Koup SX joins the line-up this year.
Choosing Your Kia Forte Koup
The main decision for a Koup buyer is between two trim levels defined by their engines. Both feature a standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission:
- The base EX comes with a 2-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and combined fuel economy of 33 mpg (manual) or 34 mpg (automatic).
- The sportier SX is equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 201 horsepower. It's rated for combined fuel economy of 29 mpg (manual) or 30 mpg (automatic).
EX
The EX comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, Bluetooth technology, satellite radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons, a tilt and telescoping steering column, power windows, and LED headlights.
The short option list includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror and accessories like a cargo mat or cargo net.
SX
The SX adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, and LED taillights. More importantly, though, it gives access to a pair of option packages:
- SX Tech: This package also costs $1,800, and can be ordered only with the Premium package. It includes HID headlights, navigation with voice command and dual zone climate control with rear vents.
Back up the sporty intentions of the Koup by choosing the gutsy SX. Be careful about adding option packages—ordering both can push the Koup's price into competition with more accomplished cars.
