Last year the conventional Optima received a refresh—this year, it's the Optima Hybrid's turn. It doesn't achieve improved fuel economy over last year’s hybrid, but continues to be a segment standout with its good looks and inviting cabin.
What's New for 2014
Styling revisions increase aerodynamic efficiency. These include front and rear fascia updates, new wheel designs, and unique grille and lighting elements.
Choosing Your Kia Optima Hybrid
All models use the same hybrid powerplant that produces a combined 199 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. There are two trim levels, though, and overall efficiency depends on which one you choose:
EX
The more lavish EX suffers slightly at the pump—expect 35 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. Leather upholstery is standard, as is navigation, and front seats that are heated and ventilated. Those who want the ultimate Optima can opt for a white Nappa leather interior with contrasting piping.
The LX is the value leader—priced like some compacts with conventional engines. The upscale EX is substantially more expensive, but still an excellent value. Make a decision based on your budget and needs.
