A luxury roadster with blistering performance, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is a thrilling example of what’s possible when engine size is no object. If the standard SL is a dream car, the 65 AMG is nothing less than pure fantasy.
What's New for 2014
The in-dash infotainment screen gains a new feature called SplitView, which can project different images to the driver and passenger at the same time.

What do you get for $214,500—more than double the price of entry for a basic SL550? As the most exclusive model in the all-convertible SL line, the 65 AMG receives the biggest engine: a hand-built twin-turbo V12 that puts out a thunderous 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. All that thrust is funneled through a specially programmed seven-speed automatic transmission. Other performance upgrades include carbon-fiber brakes, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, special gauges and displays, and the most aggressive suspension tuning in the lineup. Not surprisingly, the sprint from zero to 60 mph passes in just 3.9 seconds.
All features available on lesser SLs come standard on the 65 AMG. That means you get indulgences like soft-close doors, a retractable panoramic glass roof with adjustable tint, infrared night vision, collision mitigation systems and Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker surround sound. You have a choice of carbon fiber or wood trim to go with the AMG-spec Nappa leather seats.
Even at this level of endowment, there are some options to consider:
- Exterior Carbon Fiber Package (mirror caps, rear spoiler, front air dam)
- Black-finish wheels
- Red-painted brake calipers
- Wood and leather steering wheel
