The midsize Acura RLX sometimes gets lost in the luxury sedan shuffle, and that's a shame considering its strong credentials. You get interior room comparable to some full-size cars and a satisfying array of high-end features at a price that undercuts most competitors.

What's New for 2015

Introduced just last year, the RLX is essentially unchanged.

Choosing Your Acura RLX

Although it's officially billed as midsize, the front-drive RLX offers a level of stretch-out comfort usually associated with the largest passenger cars. This is especially evident in back, where adults can idle for hours without getting on each others' nerves. The exterior look is both modern and restrained, about what you would expect in a flagship sedan from Acura. The sole engine is a 3.5-liter V6 capable of producing 310 horsepower, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The RLX is offered in five trim levels, which are essentially a series of progressive option packages:

Starts out with a leatherette interior with heated power seats in front, driver memory functions, tri-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, keyless access and ignition, and a power-adjustable steering wheel. In terms of technology, you get Bluetooth phone and audio, a rearview camera and dual touchscreen displays. The 10-speaker ELS sound system features integrated smartphone apps and HD and satellite radio. The RLX rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels.

RLX with Navigation

Adds a navigation system, voice controls, additional smartphone apps, the AcuraLink telematics system and climate control that automatically adjusts to the effects of direct sunlight.

RLX with Technology Package

Further equips the RLX with premium-grade Milano leather upholstery, automatic wipers, power-folding mirrors, special acoustic glass, blind spot monitoring, 19-inch wheels and a 14-speaker ELS sound system.

RLX with Krell Audio Package

Adds a premium 14-speaker Krell sound system along with a power rear sunshade and manual ones for the rear side windows.

RLX with Advance Package

Tops off the RLX with ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and auto-dimming side mirrors. You also get advanced safety technology like lane keeping assist, active collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.

CarsDirect Tip

Since there are no individual options for the RLX, choosing the right trim level is especially important. The RLX with Technology Package furnishes most features luxury car buyers want and is still very reasonably priced for this class. But if you insist on all the latest safety technology, the RLX with Advance Package is the only way to go, and you're assured of getting every possible feature that Acura offers.
