2015 Buick Regal OVERVIEW

The middle child of Buick's sedan lineup, the Regal is also the most European of the three. It's a very close relative of the German-built Opel Insignia and therefore a strong competitor for other European premium sedans from Audi and Volvo, among others.

What's New for 2015

The 2015 Regal gets a few new paint colors and OnStar with 4G LTE and a built-in hotspot.

Choosing Your Buick Regal

Buick offers the Regal with a variety of equipment levels, but all qualify as a luxury car.

Base

The base Regal comes with a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 259 horsepower that's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Dual-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, Buick's IntelliLink multimedia system with 7-speaker audio system, OnStar, a satellite radio, leather upholstery, heated and powered front seats, Bluetooth, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a backup camera are all standard. All-wheel drive, a navigation system and a moonroof are available as options.

Premium I

Premium I adds keyless entry and start, a universal home transmitter, remote vehicle start, an eight-way power passenger's seat, rear park assist, a 12-volt power outlet and a heated steering wheel. Optional is the "mild hybrid" eAssist system, which is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to an electric motor which raises fuel economy from 21/30 mpg with the turbo to 25/36 mpg. All-wheel drive is available with the turbo and automatic, as is navigation, a moonroof and chrome wheels.

Premium II

Premium II adds rear side airbags, a Bose audio system, bi-xenon headlights and a navigation system to the standard equipment list. This is the trim level for buyers who want access to the latest driver assists. The Driver Confidence 1 package includes blind spot warning with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic detection, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, memory settings for the driver and a moonroof (which is also a standalone option). The Driver Confidence 2 package adds the features of the first package, plus adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking. All-wheel drive is also available.

GS

The GS adds several handling and appearance enhancements to the Regal, even though it now shares its engine with the rest of the range. A six-speed automatic is standard, although a six-speed manual is a no-cost option. Front and rear parking sensors are included, as is the HiPer strut front suspension system, Brembo front brakes, dual stainless steel exhaust tips, GS-specific front and rear lower bumper treatments, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, there's an 8-inch configurable driver information display and sport front bucket seats. Options include 20-inch alloy wheels, all-wheel drive (but only with the automatic transmission) and a moonroof. The Driver Confidence 1 and Driver Confidence 2 packages are also optional on the GS.

CarsDirect Tip

The GS is surprisingly convincing as an entry-level premium sports sedan. But the real Regal value is in Premium II trim, which offers advanced safety features for thousands less than comparable European cars.
